Our Affliction (1)- Night Flight

Long time no see Weekend Writing Warriors! Sorry for my extended absence but don’t fret, I’m back and I have a new WIP to sink your teeth into. For the new visitors, the Weekend Writing Warriors is a weekly blog hop where writers post 8-10 line snippets of their work. For more of these lovely people (and more info about the blog hop) visit this week’s participants and discover something new!

Story Synopsis:
Memories. An Inspiration. A Curse.
Between sports, school work, his tutoring and being the family peacekeeper, Conor has no time to dwell on the past. But when a new girl arrives to Esterhaven in the middle of first semester she not only brings the heart wrenching past to life but also unlocks a danger seething inside him.

Natalie, having limited contact with people her age, struggles with adopting to life at the prestigious boarding school. She longs to live in the moment, meet friends and have hobbies like her peers. But something inside her holds her back. A curse, which plagued her from childhood, challenges her need for normalcy. But when murder interrupts her first week of classes she can’t help but feel responsible. After all, death follows her everywhere.

Our Affliction is my current WIP which was created in the vein of Beauty and the Beast meets time travel.

The full bodied rusty moon hung heavy in the cloudless night. My feathers quiver as magic vibrates the air. My mistress, lady Memney dances between the light posts below. Light foot and silent she vanished between the homes where mortals lock themselves from the dangers of the darkness. She paused her song at the base of the tree I was perched in and summoned me to her arm. I obeyed and felt my talons poke her soft shimmering skin as she gave me a strange round object. It tastes like dirt and blood with a metallic aftertaste. Her long finger points to the backyard. As commanded my wings lift me into the air and I land on the cool grass. I scratch my feet over the rich clay and dig as deep as I can; what my Mistress commands will be done.

That’s all for now, until next time! Also, since this is still in editing phases, advice is welcome.
